NEWS UPDATE: Pioneer on the Lake
We have some AMAZING, incredible news to share!!!
As many of you know and have witnessed the years of wear and tear on the roofs of the buildings at Pioneer, and have become quite deteriorated.This past winter many of our roofs were tarped and severe leaking occurred throughout the winter despite our best attempts to prevent it. The roofs are in need of significant repair to continue programming on the grounds.
Hickman Hall had a puddle of water on the tarped main wood floor pretty much all winter. Founders Court ceilings were caving in. Schroeter Circle was experiencing severe leaking--water on the top bunks. Without a miracle, we would not be able to open this season.
But God...had different plans! Plans for ministry to continue at Pioneer in 2023! The total need to replace ALL the roofs at Pioneer with new metal roofing that will last 50+ years is $200k+
Your Friends of Pioneer board set out to work with our "Raise the Roof" Campaign. And now it is time to share with you not only our need but our HUGE blessing. In the first quarter of 2023 the Friends of Pioneer board set out to speak to individual donors as well as apply for specific grants.
We are VERY PLEASED to announce that The Wendt Foundation in Buffalo, NY (with Western, NY Lutheran roots) has agreed to support Pioneer with a $100,000 grant to kick off this project!
This incredible gift is allowing Pioneer to replace over 1/2 of the roofs on campus, allowing us to deliver our camps this summer. The roofs of Hickman Hall, all Schroeter Circle Cabins, Family Court, Founders Court and the supply house (Upper Bathhouse) are currently being replaced by a local Amish crew!
Pioneer is working to leverage this amazing contribution from The Wendt Foundation to raise additional needed funds to complete this project to replace the remaining roofs so that they can last for many years to come!
